Welcome!
I stumbled on The Writer's Inn, a new website, last month. The innkeeper was advertising for short stories to post on the Inn's Short Story Corner.
That got my attention. I pop out short stories regularly, so I sent in a short-short I titled "The Essay." It's a take-off on that assignment we all got in English class back in middle and high school on the first day the fall semester cranked back up: What did you do on your summer vacation?
Two kids tooling up and down the sidewalks of our neighborhood inspired "The Essay." One drove a riding lawnmower, and he pulled a trailer in which his partner rode, his partner waving a sign that read "We mow lawns."
"The Essay" is written by the guy in the trailer, and just everything goes wrong when the partners find themselves mowing the lawn of a nudist.
The innkeeper laughed so loud over "The Essay" that it's now up on the Inn's Short Story Corner.
And that's not all. The innkeeper also put Early's Fall on the Inn's Bookshelf and me on the Inn's Spotlight Author Page. And in August, I'll be back at the Inn in an interview.
All because of a short story.
So now you want to read the short story, don't you? Here's the link.
You should also read my July short story, "The Hot Seat," here on my website, and my interview with West Virginia senator and writer Robert Byrd. Byrd died last month.
